Supporting Charities Through Legacies: Rachel Jones Attends MND Association & National Trust Legacy Events
Rachel Jones, a Wills Lawyer at our Hassocks office, has recently had the privilege of attending two important legacy events in July, hosted by the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and the National Trust.
As a specialist in Wills and estate planning, Rachel regularly works with individuals and families to ensure their wishes are protected for the future. She also works closely with the National Free Wills Network, supporting a number of leading charities by helping their supporters put valid Wills in place.
These two recent events offered a wonderful opportunity to speak directly to supporters of both organisations about the importance of having a Will and how legacy gifts can not only benefit charities but also provide real value within an estate.

MND Association Legacy Event – 10 July
The MND Association Legacy Event brought together supporters, volunteers and those living with MND to learn more about the charity’s work and how legacy donations are being used to fund research and support services.
Rachel was invited to give a presentation on the importance of Wills and how leaving a legacy can make a meaningful difference, both to a person’s estate and to the causes they care about.
Also speaking at the event were Libby Moody and Professor Nigel Leigh, who gave valuable insights into how legacy gifts are helping to fund PhDs and scientific research. This included talks by Dr Greig Joilin on gene regulators and muscle treatment, Dr Eleni Christoforidou on blood markers for prognosis, and Dr Andrew Barritt on brain and spinal cord imaging.
It was a powerful and informative day that highlighted just how vital legacy funding can be in the ongoing fight against motor neurone disease.
National Trust Legacy Event – 16 July
Later in the month, Rachel and her assistant Ayshea Hales attended the National Trust’s Legacy Event at Sheffield Park Gardens in East Sussex, hosted by Sarah Beaumont, Regional Legacy Development Manager for the London and South East.
Rachel gave a presentation on the role of Wills in estate planning and how leaving a legacy to a charity like the National Trust can help preserve some of the UK’s most treasured places for future generations.
The event included a tour of the beautiful gardens, giving guests the opportunity to see the impact of legacy donations first-hand. Of particular note was the Garden for the Future, a new project designed by Joe Perkins, which has been made possible thanks to legacy support.
As a regular visitor to Sheffield Park, Rachel was surprised and inspired by how much there was still to learn about the gardens, their conservation and the passion of the team working to protect them.
Promoting the Importance of Wills
Rachel has been working alongside the National Free Wills Network for several years, helping supporters of both national and local charities to write or update their Wills.
Leaving a gift in your Will is a personal decision, but one that can make a lasting difference. For those who support the MND Association or the National Trust and are considering including a legacy in their Will, both organisations can help connect you with a participating solicitor through the Free Wills Network.
At GoodLaw Solicitors LLP, we are proud to support these initiatives and to help individuals plan for the future with clarity and confidence.
