An absolutely shocking decision of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) appears in the news today in relation to a case of historic sexual abuse: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/feb/02/man-who-was-sexually-abused-as-a-13-year-old-is-denied-compensation
The CICA has refused a man compensation on the basis that he consented to the abuse, even though he was only 13 at the time and a judge in some of the criminal cases made it clear that he was not at all to blame. Fortunately, it would appear that Liberty has taken up his case and is helping with an appeal of this very unfair decision.
Seeking compensation for sexual abuse (historic or otherwise) can be a long and difficult process and requires sensitive, experienced, expert guidance. Criminal injuries compensation is only one route available for victims of sexual abuse, but there are others.
